Prohibits the creation and use of deceptive bot software that hides its automated nature.
The problem
Automated bots disguised as humans spread false information, manipulate online discussions, and deceive the public without disclosure of their artificial nature.
The proposal
The bill would ban 'stealth bots'—automated software that impersonates humans—and likely require transparency when bots interact online.
The impact
Tech companies, social media platforms, and bot developers would face restrictions. Users would gain clearer information about what is human versus automated.
Banning hidden bots makes it harder to spread false information at scale. People would know when they're talking to a machine, not a person.
Requires transparency about automated accounts. Helps preserve trust in online conversations and prevents manipulation of public opinion.
People would know if they're interacting with bots in customer service, sales, or social media. Prevents deceptive automated manipulation.
The term 'stealth bot' may be unclear. Legitimate automation like chatbots could be affected. Businesses might struggle knowing what's legal.
Tech companies would need to redesign systems to comply. Smaller platforms might struggle with expensive updates and monitoring.
Hard to catch hidden bots that move across borders. Bad actors could operate overseas. Enforcement would be difficult and expensive.
Some legitimate uses of automation—like customer support bots or accessibility tools—could be restricted. May slow useful technology.

Money from people who work there, not from the company. Not tied to this bill.
Itemized individual contributions via FEC, grouped by the employer each contributor self-reported. Companies and unions cannot contribute to federal candidates from their treasuries, so these totals are money from people who work at an employer — never from the organization itself. They are campaign contributions covering a full election cycle and are not connected to this bill.
