Allows undocumented immigrants brought to U.S. as children to serve in AmeriCorps programs.
The problem
Undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, often called Dreamers, face barriers to national service opportunities available to other young Americans.
The proposal
Permits individuals without lawful immigration status to participate in AmeriCorps, a federal volunteer service program offering education benefits, stipends, and community service opportunities.
The impact
Undocumented youth gain access to service programs and education benefits. AmeriCorps expands its recruitment pool. Affects immigration policy and federal program eligibility rules.
Allows more young people to contribute to their communities through national service. AmeriCorps could increase program participation and reach underserved areas with additional volunteers.
Participants gain education awards to pay for college or training. This increases educational pathways for individuals previously excluded from these federal benefits.
More volunteers available for infrastructure repairs, education tutoring, disaster relief, and community development projects nationwide.
Participants earn stipends and spend in local economies. Increased credential attainment may boost future earnings and tax contributions.
Congress may lack clear authority to override immigration eligibility rules through program expansion. Could face legal challenges on constitutional grounds regarding immigration enforcement.
AmeriCorps education awards and stipends represent federal spending. Expanding to undocumented populations increases program costs without corresponding revenue sources.
AmeriCorps would need new verification procedures to determine applicant eligibility. Administrative changes could delay program operations and increase bureaucratic burden.
Bill addresses contentious immigration policy. May face opposition from those prioritizing citizenship requirements for federal benefits.

Money from people who work there, not from the company. Not tied to this bill.
Itemized individual contributions via FEC, grouped by the employer each contributor self-reported. Companies and unions cannot contribute to federal candidates from their treasuries, so these totals are money from people who work at an employer — never from the organization itself. They are campaign contributions covering a full election cycle and are not connected to this bill.
