Bill aims to protect maternal and infant health from climate-related environmental risks.
The problem
Climate change may increase health risks for pregnant women and babies through air pollution, extreme heat, and contaminated water affecting vulnerable populations.
The proposal
The bill would establish federal programs and funding to study and reduce climate-related health risks specifically for mothers and infants nationwide.
The impact
Pregnant women, infants, and families would benefit from new health protections. Healthcare providers and environmental agencies would implement new programs and oversight.
Pregnant women and babies are especially sensitive to air pollution and extreme heat. Targeted protections could prevent serious health problems before birth and during infancy.
Creates scientific understanding of how climate affects pregnancy and infant development. This data could improve medical care and public health policies.
Preventing climate-related illnesses in mothers and babies could lower hospital visits and long-term medical expenses for individuals and government programs.
Low-income and minority communities often face worse air quality and heat exposure. Focused programs could help reduce health disparities.
New research and programs would cost taxpayer money at a time of budget constraints. Exact costs are unclear without seeing bill details.
Federal agencies already address maternal health and environmental protection. New bill could duplicate efforts instead of improving coordination.
Creating new health programs requires coordination between federal, state, and local agencies. Delays or inconsistent quality could limit effectiveness.
While climate affects health, proving specific links between climate changes and individual pregnancy outcomes is scientifically complex and uncertain.

Money from people who work there, not from the company. Not tied to this bill.
Itemized individual contributions via FEC, grouped by the employer each contributor self-reported. Companies and unions cannot contribute to federal candidates from their treasuries, so these totals are money from people who work at an employer — never from the organization itself. They are campaign contributions covering a full election cycle and are not connected to this bill.
