Allows Operation End Sweep veterans to receive the Vietnam Service Medal.
The problem
Some veterans who served in Operation End Sweep after the Vietnam War ended may not have received the Vietnam Service Medal they were eligible for during their service.
The proposal
The bill changes eligibility rules to allow Operation End Sweep veterans to receive the Vietnam Service Medal recognition for their military service.
The impact
Veterans from Operation End Sweep gain access to a military service medal. This affects recognition of their service and potentially related veteran benefits.
Veterans who served in Operation End Sweep receive formal recognition for their military service through the medal. This acknowledges their contribution during an important Cold War period.
The bill addresses a past gap where some veterans may have been excluded from benefits they qualified for. This ensures fair treatment of all military service members.
Awarding medals is minimal in cost compared to other veteran programs. The fiscal impact is likely very small or negligible.
Proper recognition improves veteran satisfaction and acknowledges sacrifice. It strengthens public appreciation for military service.
Without an official summary, the exact number of affected veterans and specific eligibility criteria are unclear. This makes it difficult to assess full impact.
Expanding medal eligibility retroactively could set a precedent for other historical military service cases. This might lead to similar requests.
Military and veteran agencies must process and award medals to previously ineligible veterans. This requires staff time and administrative work.

Money from people who work there, not from the company. Not tied to this bill.
Itemized individual contributions via FEC, grouped by the employer each contributor self-reported. Companies and unions cannot contribute to federal candidates from their treasuries, so these totals are money from people who work at an employer — never from the organization itself. They are campaign contributions covering a full election cycle and are not connected to this bill.
