Suspends the federal gas tax temporarily to reduce fuel prices.
The problem
High gas prices strain household budgets and increase transportation costs for workers and families across the country.
The proposal
The bill temporarily suspends the federal excise tax on gasoline, reducing the tax per gallon that consumers pay at the pump.
The impact
Consumers pay less at gas pumps. Government receives less tax revenue. Roads and bridges get less funding for maintenance and repairs.
Reduces the cost of filling up vehicles, saving money for families and individuals who drive regularly. This puts more money in people's pockets for other expenses.
Lower gas costs help people with less money who depend on cars for work and daily life. It eases the burden of transportation expenses.
Companies that transport goods pay less for fuel, which may lower shipping costs and reduce prices for consumers on shipped products.
A temporary suspension acts fast to give immediate help to people struggling with high fuel costs without lengthy legislative processes.
The gas tax funds highways, bridges, and roads. Suspending it means less money for repairs and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.
The federal government loses tax income that would normally come from gas sales. This money must come from elsewhere or not be spent.
Gas prices depend on world oil markets and refining costs. Oil companies might keep savings instead of passing all tax cuts to consumers.
A suspension only works for a limited time. When it ends, prices may go back up, and people won't have lasting relief.

Money from people who work there, not from the company. Not tied to this bill.
Itemized individual contributions via FEC, grouped by the employer each contributor self-reported. Companies and unions cannot contribute to federal candidates from their treasuries, so these totals are money from people who work at an employer — never from the organization itself. They are campaign contributions covering a full election cycle and are not connected to this bill.
